Requirements Bachelor degree in Early Childhood Education with a Kansas Teaching License preferred Minimum of one year working with young children in an organized setting Ability to work successfully with adults Ability to effectively manage classroom environment and routines, planning, scheduling, and paperwork Ability to positively supervise and mentor assistant teachers and classroom aids and volunteers Must have a valid drivers license Must have a dependable means of transportation with minimum insurance Bilingual use of Spanish and English is helpful Description PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Plans and implements program curriculum, High Scope, with input from other classroom staff Complies with current Head Start Performance Standards Complies with state licensing guidelines if working in a state licensed classroom Develops weekly lesson plans according to High Scope guidelines and other agency requirements Sets up and maintains classroom environment in accordance with High Scope guidelines and learning centers Completes developmental and behavioral screening on children new to the program within 45 days and provides that information the Education Specialist Implements ongoing assessment to record childrens growth and development using the Galileo assessment tool Ensures daily observations of children are completed and documented in Galileo Inputs assessment data into the Galileo system online, weekly Conducts two home visits during the school year and documents in Child Plus Conducts two school conferences during the school year and documents in Child Plus Plans and implements Conscious Discipline, Safe Touch Curriculum and the Transportation and Safety Curriculum, and reflects these lessons on the weekly lesson plan Develops a developmental portfolio, showing growth of children through use of pictures, work samples and explanations for each child in the classroom with the assistance of the assistant teacher(s) Attends all pre-service and in-service meetings, as scheduled throughout the year Attends selected conferences or workshops, as designated, to meet professional development goals or as required by the program Keeps parents informed through phone calls, newsletters, flyers, and other communication, as appropriate Participates in scheduled staffing meetings Provides documentation reflecting areas of concern when staffing a child who may need additional classroom support or is referred for evaluation Works individually with children who are in the SIT process and maintains data on that work Coordinates with outside services for children, as needed, whether within the classroom setting or pull-out services Posts weekly lesson plans and other classroom information on parent board Participates with other classroom staff in at least three parent activities per school year for parents of children enrolled in classroom Keeps childrens files up to date and in order Supervises and mentors assistant teachers Conducts annual evaluation of assistant teachers in partnership with the Education Mentor Coach and Education Specialist Keeps materials and equipment clean and in working order and ensures materials are returned to proper storage areas Communicates with Education Specialist when materials or equipment needs to be replaced Conducts monthly team meetings and submits report forms to Education Specialist Refers parents to appropriate resources or staff, as needed Develops and maintains positive relationships with all families Keeps communication open between classroom staff and maintains a professional relationship Coordinates daily duties and responsibilities with other classroom staff Keeps the classroom environment clean, uncluttered and child appropriate at all times Maintains order in the classroom by using and modeling appropriate Conscious Discipline guidance techniques Develops short and long term professional development goals and demonstrates growth as an early childhood professional Participate fully in supervision, training, coaching, and professional development opportunities Other duties as assigned by the program director PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Lift and hold a child up to 40 pounds Lean over and pick up items from the floor weighing up to 40 pounds Lift an item overhead to place on a shelf or to put in a cupboard Sit on the floor with children for up to 15 minutes at a time Ability to bend, twist move from sitting or standing Be able to move quickly from sitting on the floor to a standing position Stand for long periods of time in the classroom or out on the playground Push or pull a food cart weighing up to 40 pounds Have a full range of motion to lead children in movement activities Move quickly from one position to another while supervising children Participate in outdoor activities that will include, running, pushing children in a swing, climbing, or going on long walks TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : Part-time Employment Opportunity (less than 12 months). 190 days.
